Transmission Supplier TREMEC Moves to New Facility
Expansion underscores leadership position in high-performance vehicle transmissions
August 14, 2017 / Wixom, Mich. — TREMEC Corporation is in the final stages of preparing a new, contemporary facility for the design, development and manufacture of transmissions and other powertrain products for the North American automotive market. The company will move its current Plymouth, Michigan-based operations into its new facility in mid-August 2017 and will expand activities over the next 18 months.
The project represents the company’s first major manufacturing operations in the United States. The new 125,000 square foot building will enable TREMEC to expand Michigan operations from technical and customer support to a complete full service facility with engineering, business development, testing, and transmission assembly operations under one roof. The automotive transmission operations are expected to produce high-torque dual clutch transmissions for OEM vehicles.
TREMEC is investing over $50 million into the U.S. operations, creating around 130 jobs over three years with 25 new positions in 2017, 80 new positions in 2018 and 30 new positions in 2019. As a result, the project was awarded a Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant to support its investment in the state.
The City of Wixom also committed support to the project in the form of property tax abatement. The property falls within Wixom city limits and therefore taxes are paid to Wixom. However, the new TREMEC facility will have a Novi mailing address. According to a Wixom city official, “This is not a rare circumstance and actually happens commonly along city and township borders, especially when there are railroads and freeways present. Postal boundaries do not match city and township boundaries in Michigan.”
The new facility is located at:
46643 Ryan Court | Novi, MI 48377-1730 | Tel: (248) 859-6500 | Fax: (248) 859-6400 | www.tremec.com
Torque transfer solutions from TREMEC are found in products ranging from supercars and high-performance sports cars to severe duty, vocational and commercial vehicles worldwide. The portfolio of products includes manual transmissions, dual clutch transmissions, hybrid & EV drivelines, gears, shafts, clutches, and mechatronic systems with integrated clutch systems and control software.
