New Cars Available with a Manual Transmission
(UPDATED FOR 2018) The manual transmission has inched closer and closer to the endangered-options list for new cars. But fans of the manual transmission can rejoice: Recently, manual transmissions have been trending! Manufacturers have been making it possible to get a stick shift in more new models.
And it’s not limited to wheezing four-cylinders that don’t have enough power to spin an automatic. There are mid-range options with a manual transmission that can be very appealing.
Most of the current offerings are of the six-speed variety, but there are still some factory five-speeds to be had. They are paired with either front-wheel-drive transaxles, although some all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive options are available as well. And all use a hydraulically operated clutch.
What follows is your handy guide to 2017 models available with a stick-shift transmission. We have, however, skipped commercial trucks and exotic supercars cars, such as Ferrari and McClaren.
