Summertime is prime Mustang weather.
It’s also prime ice cream weather, which makes Ford’s recent collaboration with Coolhaus Premium Ice Cream perfectly suited to the season. Together, just in time for National Ice Cream Day, Ford and Coolhaus have created a limited-edition Orange Fury ice cream sandwich inspired by the 2018 Ford Mustang and its available “Orange Fury Metallic Tri-coat” exterior paint option.
The Coolhaus Orange Fury ice cream sandwich consists of two fresh-baked vanilla cookies with orange icing, with a scoop of Orange Fury ice cream between them. The sandwich even gets a special wrapper: an edible paper one made from potato, with a Mustang print rendered in edible ink.
Ford Color and Design Manager Barb Whalen played a big role in making the new Coolhaus Orange Fury ice cream sandwich a reality, working with Coolhaus to translate Ford’s iconic pony car into a frozen, edible treat. “I typically focus on things like color research, leather seats and hand stitching, so this was definitely a bit different for me,” she says. “It was fun applying some of those same design philosophies into helping Coolhaus create an ice cream flavor that really embodies the new Orange Fury color.”
And the result looks delicious.
Coolhaus CEO and founder Natasha Case says she’s always been a fan of Ford’s iconic Mustang pony car. “[I] was super excited when they came to us with such a special project. We thrive on helping our customers realize their vision and love to help create that special, one-of-a-kind experience, one that really makes an impact. We couldn?t be happier that one of the original American classics chose Coolhaus, a new American classic, as a way to add excitement to their latest innovation.”
Haven’t heard of Coolhaus? It was founded in 2009. Now, its ice cream sandwiches can be found in more than 5,000 stores in every U.S. state, including Whole Foods Market, Target and Safeway. The brand was recently featured by CNN Money in a story about the growth of artisanal ice cream.
Ford said the goal was “to capture the essence” of the new Mustang and the new color.
The refreshed, 2018 Ford Mustang will reach dealer showrooms starting this fall.
