After making a splash at the Detroit auto show in January, the Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang officially enters production today.
“This is a special day for all Mustang enthusiasts,” said Executive Chairman Bill Ford, celebrating the first GT350R to roll off the line in Flat Rock, Mich. “We have taken the GT350 formula to the next level of innovation, style and performance. Today the legend continues.”
Ford bills it as the most track-capable street-legal production Mustang ever. Under the hood, the GT350R features Ford’s most powerful naturally aspirated engine packing 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The V-8 powerplant comes attached to a six-speed manual transmission – the TREMEC TR-3160.
The new GT350R Mustang is the most athletic Mustang ever, designed to tackle the world’s most challenging roads and race tracks while creating an exhilarating experience for the driver
The GT350R also benefits from a uniquely tuned suspension with revised spring rates, a lower ride height, and revised calibration for the MagneRide dampeners that adjust dampening every 20 milliseconds.
Aerodynamic details including a hood vent, bold diffuser, side skirts, fender vents, vented wheelwells, and wheel air curtains help the model cut through air more efficiently. Lightweight carbon fiber makes up the rear wing as well as the 19-inch wheels. Other standard features on the model include six-piston Brembo front brake calipers, dual exhaust with active valves and quad tips, aluminum pedals, and Recardo cloth/Miko suede sport seats.
