Packaging Engineer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop packaging and dunnage plan for every part within the Bill Of Materials based on product and assembly line requirements (point of use)
  • Engage with suppliers to propose an optimum packaging solution taking into account Order Quantity / Lot size / Price fulfilling the product use requirements
  • Ensure timely implementation of the packaging concept with each supplier as defined by the project and sourcing team
  • Participate in the sourcing process questions related to packaging until agreed upon design / flow of material
  • Participate in Customer discussions of final packaging
  • Define/conceptual design internal packaging flow if not being the same as from supplier, i.e. repacking / kitting operations together with industrial engineering
  • Function as liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, quality and suppliers to resolve supplier packaging issues and to provide technical support
  • Assure supplier understanding of packaging requirements
  • Establish contacts with external packaging companies for validation use or other purposes
  • Evaluate and participate in any product design changes affecting packaging strategy
  • Maintain required documentation and files for quick status reporting to management and follow up
  • Continuous improvement on packaging and design
  • Conduct cost saving analysis for all inbound components, including expendable to returnable business cases
  • Work with packaging suppliers i.e. vacuum formers, injection molders etc., to design, develop, test, validate and implement custom designed containers for inbound containers
  • Root cause analysis to determine cause of packaging issues and work with suppliers to develop correction action plan and timeline
  • Track supplier and customer packaging fleets to ensure an adequate supply for all build and shipping activities.
  • Write and maintain work instruction and process updates related to packaging.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-5 years of experience in supply chain & logistics engineering in an automotive OEM / Tier 1 environment
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing and/or logistics (with thorough knowledge of assembly plant processes, procedures, facilities, equipment & warehouses
  • Experience working with global suppliers from different continents.
