Your role 

As the Functional Safety Coach, you are responsible for the project coaching and directional management of functional safety in TREMEC Belgium. The main objective for you, together with the Belgian team, is to implement and run fully ISO26262 compliant projects within TREMEC. In practice this means that you and your team will further improve the existing functional safety process management and work products to enable the departments, involved in commercial projects, to create and deliver the required ISO26262 work products, which will be coached and reviewed by your team. You coach the various teams in Belgium to produce (input to) work products to be delivered for project gates and which skill sets the department managers need to acquire in their teams to gain the competency for all ISO2626 related work.

You will report functionally to the Functional Safety Team Lead and hierarchically to the Engineering Manager of TREMEC Belgium. You will be responsible to advise on company budget for implementing functional safety into the whole organization.

Key area of responsibilities

  • Responsible for a pragmatic way forward for functional safety processes.
  • Definition of tools and resources.
  • Support in the qualification of the development tools and libraries.
  • Coordination of internal confirmation reviews and audits across projects.
  • Safety management during the offer phase (up to project kick-off).
  • Coach the Project Functional Safety Managers throughout the course of projects (support and follow-up).
  • Coach and train for safety management after SOP.
  • Responsible for ISO26262 related qualification of personnel.

Your profile 

  • Master in Informatics/Mechatronics/Electronics/Electro-mechanical engineering or equivalent through experience.
  • You show experience in a multiple of ASIL-C or ASIL-D compliant commercial projects in automotive, during which you successfully completed the lifecycle from management and concept definition up to the decommissioning of a product. Also experience in the management of (automotive) functional safety engineering ensuring compliance to ISO26262 ASIL-D rated automotive product lifecycles is a must.
  • You know how to put ISO26262 into practice based upon former industry experience.
  • You are a qualified /certified functional safety expert (AFSE or similar).
  • You are a qualified / certified auditor at least on IATF 16949 but preferably ISO 19011.
  • You have
    • direct experience with assessments and audits for international programs requiring ISO26262 compliance.
    • proven organizational & people management skills.
    • extensive knowledge on Product safety according to IATF 16949.
    • knowledge of tools used in Functional Safety Management.
    • knowledge of System Engineering.
    • extensive knowledge of Requirement Management.
  • You are familiar with automotive development and both quantitative & qualitative methodologies (FMEA/FTA / FMEDA / DFA methods/tools) and the typical associated tools (e.g. FaultTree+, Medini etc.).
  • Experience in electrified powertrains and/or Software Quality, process and standards (e.g. SPICE, CMMI) is a plus.
  • You are a team player with good communication skills and you have an eye for detail and a structured & qualitative way of working.
